The Ukrainian Dnipro Choir of Edmonton has a rich history spanning seventy years. It was founded in 1953, under conductor Roman Soltykewych, as a Male Chorus. Maria Dytyniak assumed the baton in 1976 and led the choir for 35 years with projects as diverse as operas and oratorios, in addition to concerts featuring repertoire from sacred to folk to contemporary compositions.
Under the direction of Irena Szmihelsky since 2011, Dnipro has presented diverse concert programs including newly commissioned works and repertoire from a rich repository of Ukrainian Choral music of all genres.
Among its many accomplishments, the Ukrainian Dnipro Choir of Edmonton is proud to have graced stages for audiences in North America, the Philippines, Hawaii, Australia and, in 2018, Ukraine.
