Art and English Language

This child-centred program will provide a unique creative experience for Ukrainian children who have recently immigrated to facilitate the relocation process within Canada. Children will learn various artistic techniques using primarily acrylic paint on canvas with multiple art mediums while helping the program prepare for an art exhibit. Art lessons will include learning new skills of social and emotional wellness to assist children with feeling happy and calm throughout the day, and simple check-ins will be provided as homework to encourage practicing these skills in their daily life. Instruction will be provided in conversation English with interpretation available as needed, so children can practice their English language skills and learn new phrases in an encouraging environment. Much of the art pieces created on canvas within the program will be displayed and auctioned at a local art gallery close to the church. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to an organization within Ukraine decided for by the children and youth. This art exhibition will be an excellent way to showcase children’s Ukrainian culture, interests, creativity, and strength to the broader community.
